Day One - Sunday, 9/9/07

Hannah Faye Foster

Cody Summerville

" I rode on a baby whale that was so cute. It was my first flight on a whale."

Rosie Jones

Got up really early today, it was soooo cool that we all got to get on the same plane, after all we were on stand by. Since it was Cody's first flight we had gobs of fun teasing him about it, fixin' to go swimming with Tori and who knows who else.

The dancers pose!

After dinner at the Sommers, we all as a group watched Flight 93, and even though I had already seen the film, it was like watching it for the first time, because unlike the initial viewing, this time I was connected to it on another level. The next day was long and very tiring but never before have I ever felt loved and supported by the complete strangers I had the honor of meeting today; I'm so touched by the immense genuity shown and cannot wait to see what will happen next.

Hannah, Elizabeth, and Caleigh

Elizabeth Stone:

I did not sunderstand the actual effect of 9/11 until I watched the United 93 movie; it had such an impact on me. I'm glad I saw it because when I dance for the families tomorrow, I will understand and be able to relate to their feelings. I am so honored and glad to dance for them and to honor all that gave their lives. Thank you.

Haley Griffin:

We were very tired Saturday and the next day as we started our voyage!! Luckily all eleven of us got on the plane even thoguth we were on standby. The plane ride wasn't bad and we were there in no time. We went to a five year old's (who wants to be a ballerine) birthday party and did face paintings and animal balloons. GREAT first day!

Haley is excited to leave Austin! Tori facepainting

Day Two - 9/10/07 - Tour of Washington, D.C.

Today we took the metrobus into D.C. and started our day at the Holocaust musuem. At 2:30 we had a private tour of the Nation's Capital from one of Congressmen Conway's intern. After that we went to Union Station and had dinner then hopped on a tour bus that took us to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, FDR Memorial, and the Vietnam War Wall. See photos below.

Cody Summerville: Today was very overwhelming. From the Holocaust Museum to the Memorials it was fun yet it made you reflect on the past and take a minute to remember those who've died.

Lacy Jones: It's been so amazing to see all the memorials dedicated to some of the greatest men and women our country has ever produced. The Holocaust Museum was intense, but definitely worth it, and seeing the actual Capitol building where so much history has been made was one of the best parts of the day.

Elizabeth Stone: The Lincoln Memorial was the highlight of my evening. I teared up when I saw the statue - the same one that is on the penny!! This trip has meant so much to me and I have experienced all the things I have learned about in my history class. AMAZING.

Caleigh Hill: Today was so far one of the best days in my life. The Holocaust was tough to go to but in the end I loved learning more about it. Touring the Capitol was AMAZING and totally the best part of the day! Seeing the Lincoln Memorial was absolutely exciting! I'm proud to be an AMERICAN!

Hannah Faye: WOW! So much happened today, I could go on for hours, but I will make this short, I promise. We went to the Holocaust Museum. I wish I could express by feelings and the images, what I experienced, etc.; however, there are no words. And even after the entire exhibit, I walk out to see a sign written "talk to holocaust survivor". I saw an older woman, who through her tears and painful memories looked at me and said, "we are dying off, it is your turn, you are the new generation, you are the future!" Needless to say, I bawled! LOL. I also had the opportunity to go to the Vietnam Wall Memorial and get an etching of my second cousin's name. He was nineteen when he was killed in the war. His name wasHenry Lon Turn.

Rose Jones: News Flash! Thousands are loosing their teeth do to a recent chemical reacation in the official Altoid factory. We are currently researcning for more news. Great day again and had so much fun! We walked and toured and ate and joked (see odd scrap of conversation above). Everything was really big, and I loved the scrollwork on the buildings. It was very neat to think about how long the construction of all the big buildings took to make. Gotta go, miss y'all!

James Johnson: Ehem...so yep as you can tell today was absolutely amazing. The Holocaust Museum was such a powerful impact because I have learned about the horrible things that happened but when we were given a booklet with a specific person from the Holocaust I felt such a connection. I was lucky and picked a man who survived the concentration camp.s I was proud to have picked him. Next was a tour of the Captiol. I was astonished by all the artwork inside the building. We had a guide who had never done a tour before so we were lost 90% of the time. That was funny. And I don't remember much of the city tour because I was very tired by then.

Haley Griffin: Today we went touring around D.C. to the Holocaust Museum (such a great experience. Really glad I went), a tour of the Capitol (we got a new guy who had never done a tour before and we were lost most of the time poor guy. But we were good sports about it), the FDR Memorial Garden, Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Vietnam Wall. It was loads of good memories that I will remember for the rest of my life. AND LOADS OF FUN!!

The Capitol The Capitol overlooking Harmony's dancers Washington, D.C. is beautiful!

Day Three - 9/11/07 - Sixth Anniversary Memorial Service

Alicia Sommer - I will end this evening by saying I am in awe of what I have witnessed these last few days.... This group of exceptional young men and women rose to the occasion, paid tribute to those who lost their lives (and their families), and shared moments together that will forever be etched in their hearts. I am so proud of them and will forever be in debted to them for sharing with me, one of my hardest struggles and helping me find peaace. God paved the way for this lovely, memorable trip....The towns of Marble Falls, Burnet and Kingland - our families and friends helped us realize it. Thank you.

Good job Tori, James, Caleigh, Haley, Rose, Lacy, Cody, Hannah Faye, and Elizabeth!!!!!!!

I love you,

Alicia and Mark (gobble, gobble)

Images of today are a selection of Ave Maria, Be Near, Parayer, adn the North Star Kinds. The chapel, impaact sight (angels and unveiling of the flight 93 flag), and most importantly Mary White - mother of Honor Elizabeth (Flight 93's youngest passenger).

Lacy Jones - Well, to say that the events of today were wonderful would be an understatement. In spite of very rainy weather, we made it to the Flight 93 Memorial Chapel and were able to perform for those who gathered there for the ceremonies, including a few family members of the heroes who dided there. I think everyone here will say that one of the most imcredible things that happened today was being able to meet and make friends with the North Star Kids choir, and then be able to sing with them at the actual impact stie later. It would probably also be safe to say that most of us (I won't speak for the boys;) ) shed quite a few tears! What an incredible opportunity to be able to share in such a beautiful tradition...Needless to say, we are all exhausted, but be prepared to hear many more stories once we all arrive home!
