Today we took the metrobus into D.C. and started our day at the Holocaust musuem. At 2:30 we had a private tour of the Nation's Capital from one of Congressmen Conway's intern. After that we went to Union Station and had dinner then hopped on a tour bus that took us to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, FDR Memorial, and the Vietnam War Wall. See photos below.
Cody Summerville: Today was very overwhelming. From the Holocaust Museum to the Memorials it was fun yet it made you reflect on the past and take a minute to remember those who've died.
Lacy Jones: It's been so amazing to see all the memorials dedicated to some of the greatest men and women our country has ever produced. The Holocaust Museum was intense, but definitely worth it, and seeing the actual Capitol building where so much history has been made was one of the best parts of the day.
Elizabeth Stone: The Lincoln Memorial was the highlight of my evening. I teared up when I saw the statue - the same one that is on the penny!! This trip has meant so much to me and I have experienced all the things I have learned about in my history class. AMAZING.
Caleigh Hill: Today was so far one of the best days in my life. The Holocaust was tough to go to but in the end I loved learning more about it. Touring the Capitol was AMAZING and totally the best part of the day! Seeing the Lincoln Memorial was absolutely exciting! I'm proud to be an AMERICAN!
Hannah Faye: WOW! So much happened today, I could go on for hours, but I will make this short, I promise. We went to the Holocaust Museum. I wish I could express by feelings and the images, what I experienced, etc.; however, there are no words. And even after the entire exhibit, I walk out to see a sign written "talk to holocaust survivor". I saw an older woman, who through her tears and painful memories looked at me and said, "we are dying off, it is your turn, you are the new generation, you are the future!" Needless to say, I bawled! LOL. I also had the opportunity to go to the Vietnam Wall Memorial and get an etching of my second cousin's name. He was nineteen when he was killed in the war. His name wasHenry Lon Turn.
Rose Jones: News Flash! Thousands are loosing their teeth do to a recent chemical reacation in the official Altoid factory. We are currently researcning for more news. Great day again and had so much fun! We walked and toured and ate and joked (see odd scrap of conversation above). Everything was really big, and I loved the scrollwork on the buildings. It was very neat to think about how long the construction of all the big buildings took to make. Gotta go, miss y'all!
James Johnson: Ehem...so yep as you can tell today was absolutely amazing. The Holocaust Museum was such a powerful impact because I have learned about the horrible things that happened but when we were given a booklet with a specific person from the Holocaust I felt such a connection. I was lucky and picked a man who survived the concentration camp.s I was proud to have picked him. Next was a tour of the Captiol. I was astonished by all the artwork inside the building. We had a guide who had never done a tour before so we were lost 90% of the time. That was funny. And I don't remember much of the city tour because I was very tired by then.
Haley Griffin: Today we went touring around D.C. to the Holocaust Museum (such a great experience. Really glad I went), a tour of the Capitol (we got a new guy who had never done a tour before and we were lost most of the time poor guy. But we were good sports about it), the FDR Memorial Garden, Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Vietnam Wall. It was loads of good memories that I will remember for the rest of my life. AND LOADS OF FUN!! |
