For students of all skill levels, private lessons provide weekly instruction and mentoring support from accomplished musicians.
Participants will have both informal and formal performance opportunities throughout the year. Students are required to have access to an instrument for practicing. |
|
SPECIFIC LESSON OFFRERINGS
Piano |
Instruction includes note-reading, technique, artistry, and music theory in addition to a wide variety of practice pieces and performance repertoire. Students must have access to an acoustic piano or full-size keyboard (including a sustain pedal) for practicing. Students age 5-6 are strongly encouraged to take Kindermusik® for the Young Child class before beginning formal piano instruction. |
Guitar, Bass Guitar, & Mandolin |
Weekly lessons develop strong musical skills and can include Christian, classical, jazz, blues, folk, country, and rock repertoire. Occasional mini-recitals are held to provide opportunities to share student progress. |
Percussion: |
Weekly lessons in classical technique are available. Students begin studies on snare kit before advancing to other areas of percussion. |
Flute, Sax, Clarinet |
Instruction can begin when the student has reached appropriate physical maturity. |
Strings |
Weekly lessons include some traditional and some Suzuki methods. Daily listening to repertoire is expected; for young beginners, active parental participation is required. |
Voice |
Younger students receive music instructions with a vocal slant. As students mature, more vocal discipline is expected. Kindermusik® for the Young Child classes are available for younger students. |
|
|
COMPETITIONS |
Beginning students will have the opportunity to perform for their parents and families in an informal, classroom setting. These mini-recitals are usually scheduled for late October/early November, and again in early March. Christmas recitals are usually held at area retirement homes or elsewhere in the community. Formal recitals are scheduled in May. |
Piano students are encouraged to participate in National Piano Guild Auditions, held locally each spring. Music students who are also enrolled in Faith Academy may be eligible to prepare a number for the ACSI music competition, usually held in April. Secondary school students may also participate in either UIL or TAPPS, within certain conditions. These competitions are usually held in February/March. |
