MISSION
Harmony School’s community-wide choral program encourages vocal development by regular training in age-level choruses and performing quality literature, including sacred, classical, folk, patriotic, and some Broadway numbers.
VISION
The choral program at HSCA is an advanced and accelerated music education for singers of all ages who audition successfully for each ensemble level. The program is intended to augment a student’s musical experiences in school; all students are encouraged to remain active in their school’s music program. When possible, they are expected to assist their school music teacher as concepts are mastered.

This is a community-wide choral program, beginning with elementary age participants and building from there. Each semester culminates in 1-2 performances of a diverse repertoire, including sacred, patriotic, classical, folk, and some Broadway numbers.
Students at the elementary level are admitted by audition and interview, with more emphasis placed on an eagerness to learn in a disciplined setting than apparent natural ability.
The primary goal for the first elementary chorus is to learn to use their voices as a musical instrument. Children learn proper posture, breathing, and singing in the head register as a foundation for further study.
Skills to be developed as the program grows include musical concepts dealing with rhythm, melody, harmony, vocal technique, diction, music notation, score reading, sight-singing using solfege, ear training, and performance etiquette.
Initial start-up choir is comprised of children ages 6-12 (1st through 6th graders). Singers are expected to sign a simple commitment contract regarding expectations in the classroom as well as practice habits at home. Initially, the chorus meets once a week at a regular time and place, beginning with good warm-ups and perhaps ending with a singing game.
